(ASX: ACS) Accent Resources Financial Review - FY2021~25

Accent’s cash balance grew while losses and borrowing obligations also increased. The link is shareholder-backed funding for Magnetite Range and Norseman, not mine operating revenue. FY2025 is especially important: new borrowing refinanced convertible notes, term deposits returned to cash, and concessional-loan accounting lifted equity without an equivalent new share-cash receipt.

Five years in context

Exploration and evaluation remained the central activity across a wholly owned iron-ore and gold project portfolio. Drilling, resource modelling and metallurgical work advanced the projects; these milestones should not be converted into historical production or sales.

Funding terms have as much explanatory value as the loss figure. Related-party loans carried concessional coupons, but financial statements apply discounted liability and effective-interest accounting. The shareholder-contribution reserve is an accounting consequence of that support, not another pot of cash.

Events behind the numbers

FY2021

Debt converted into ownership

Rich Mark converted a A$5.7m note into shares in December 2020, becoming the controlling shareholder. Norseman Stage 1 drilling was completed.

FY2022

Magnetite Range drilling and new funding

Julia Prospect drilling supported resource-model work. A new Rich Mark loan financed staged activity, while Norseman drilling slipped into the next year.

FY2023

Both projects advance exploration

Phase II drilling at Magnetite Range and Stage 2 drilling at Norseman were completed; these remained exploration programmes rather than mine output.

FY2024

Resource update and metallurgical drilling

The Magnetite Range resource update was released in February 2024. Diamond-core drilling then supplied material for metallurgical testing.

FY2025

Notes redeemed, loans replace them

Noteholders relinquished conversion rights and the notes were redeemed in cash at December 2024 expiry. Reported iron and gold resources were unchanged during FY2025.

FINANCIAL REVIEW / 01

Cash growth came from funding, not mine receipts

Operating and exploration activities continued to use cash. The positive financing series supported that spending and increased year-end liquidity. The latest gross borrowing figure needs to be read with the note repayment below; quoting it alone would overstate the new cash retained.

FY2021-FY2022 dollar figures and later A$000 figures are converted to A$ million. Later rounded comparative columns are deliberately retained for FY2023-FY2024.

Exploration and PP&E are components of investing cash, not additional outflows to add to that subtotal. Term-deposit placements and withdrawals also affect investing cash.

FY2025 gross borrowing inflow includes refinancing of convertible notes; it is not equal to net new cash retained. Financing cash also includes lease payments.

FINANCIAL REVIEW / 02

Finance accounting shapes the statutory result

Finance costs are the largest selected contributor to the latest loss. Nominal coupons and the discounting rate are not interchangeable: the former describes loan terms, while the latter affects accounting measurement. The extraction contains different discount-rate references for different disclosures, so this review does not impose one universal rate on every facility.

The FY2022 amount is corroborated by the explicit annual-loss narrative, despite a legacy extraction warning about an incomplete column header.

Finance costs reflect accounting for concessional loans and effective-interest measurement; they are not simply the nominal cash coupon. The selected cost line does not alone reconcile the loss.

FINANCIAL REVIEW / 03

A growing asset base remains debt-backed

Exploration carrying amounts increased through sustained project expenditure. Total liabilities remained larger than net assets, even after FY2025 equity increased. The distinct borrowing and convertible-note rows avoid mistaking a switch between instruments for a disappearance of debt.

Loans and convertible notes are subsets of total liabilities. The notes were non-current in FY2022-FY2023, current in FY2024 and redeemed in FY2025.

Borrowing carrying values are discounted accounting amounts, not the same as undiscounted amounts at maturity. Accrued interest is included in the FY2025 borrowing balance and is not added again.

Exploration assets are accounting costs subject to recoverability, not a valuation of contained metal.

Deposit movements change the appearance of cash flow

The A$2.611m deposit moved out of cash equivalents in FY2024 and returned in FY2025. This helps explain why net investing outflow fell in FY2025 even though cash exploration spending increased. The comparison below keeps treasury movements separate from field expenditure.

FINANCIAL REVIEW / 05

Separate cash refinancing from equity accounting

The FY2025 borrowing receipt and convertible-note repayment form a refinancing transaction in the cash-flow statement. The large shareholder-contribution movement is a different accounting event arising from concessional related-party funding. Neither the reserve movement nor shares issued for vested performance rights represent an additional cash subscription.

MetricFY2025
Gross borrowing cash receipts18.078
Convertible-note cash repayment(10.078)
Lease liability cash repayments(0.050)
Net financing cash7.950

The first three cash rows reconcile to net financing. The final accounting row is separate and must not be added to cash raised.

Concessional shareholder loans are split on initial recognition between a discounted liability and a shareholder-contribution element in equity. This explains how equity can rise despite a statutory loss.

Reading the figures

  • Existing frozen annual facts and claims only; no new raw-document, parsed-body, DB or web retrieval. Primary-author review is not independent original-report verification.
  • FY2021-FY2022 original-dollar values and later rounded A$000 values are normalised to A$ million. Rounded comparative figures are not silently made more precise.
  • A legacy FY2022 header warning is not used as a hold: the explicit annual-loss narrative corroborates the selected period and value.
  • Cash, separate term deposits, discounted debt, nominal amounts payable and accounting equity contributions are not interchangeable. No market valuation or resource-to-cash estimate is included.
  • Discount-rate references of 18.4% and 18.09% occur in different extracted disclosures; no universal rate is invented to revalue the loans.
  • No producer revenue or sales-volume series is manufactured for this exploration-stage report. Publication is not approved.
