ASX: ARL · Five-year financial review

(ASX: ARL) Ardea Resources Financial Review - FY2021~25

Ardea’s financial story is the funding and development of the Goongarrie nickel-cobalt project, not realised nickel sales. Consortium support changed the funding model in FY2025, while an R&D accounting change altered the reported loss and exploration-asset balances.

Years ended 30 June 2021-2025 · Australian dollars · consolidated exploration and feasibility-stage group · Editorial review: 2026-09-28 · MII Research

Five years in context

Ardea narrowed its portfolio through the KalGold gold-rights spin-out and progressed the Goongarrie feasibility work. Study production targets, projected project returns and estimated mine life remain forward-looking; they are not recorded revenue, operating profit or historical production.

The later consortium arrangement funds the DFS through KNPL. A liability recorded before subsidiary shares were issued became equity after year-end, with Ardea retaining control. This timing distinction is more useful than describing the group simply as debt-free.

Events behind the numbers

FY2021

Consolidating feasibility work

A gap-analysis study brought together previous Goongarrie work. The KalGold spin-out was being prepared; a later completion summary is not backdated into June 2021.

FY2022

Capital raise and gold-rights spin-out

A substantial capital raise supported the nickel development strategy. The KalGold spin-out was completed, while the project gained Major Project Status and Emu Lake exploration progressed.

FY2023

PFS work and partner selection

Cash funded exploration and feasibility studies. The PFS and Japanese consortium memorandum announced in July 2023 belong to the subsequent reporting period, not realised FY2023 sales.

FY2024

Consortium cooperation agreed

The April 2024 cooperation arrangement progressed the DFS funding plan. FIRB approval and the binding shareholders’ agreement followed in August, after the June balance date.

FY2025

DFS funding and strategic investment

The binding joint venture agreement took effect in August 2024, and Sumitomo invested in Ardea shares. The consortium’s first 17.5% KNPL equity interest was issued on 4 July 2025.

FINANCIAL REVIEW / 01

The loss narrowed, but operating cash use increased

The latest loss is smaller than the restated FY2024 figure, while operating cash outflow is larger. Recognition timing, non-cash expenses and receivable movements prevent a direct loss-to-cash equivalence.

R&D incentives changed from a deduction against capitalised exploration to income. The five-year loss series is not uniformly restated and no earnings-growth rate is calculated.

Operating cash is not total project spending: capitalised exploration payments were historically classified as investing.

FINANCIAL REVIEW / 02

A large current liability became subsidiary equity after June

The statement records A$49.476m of current borrowings at June 2025. The dated transaction note identifies A$49.25m for the July equity conversion; rounded narrative funding totals vary, so they are not treated as exact interchangeable balances.

The subsequent earn-in did not generate profit or goodwill and did not end consolidation of KNPL. Further FEED or pre-construction funding may still require Ardea participation, with dilution if it elects not to contribute.

FY2024 is restated for the R&D accounting-policy change.

The FY2025 current liability includes investor funding awaiting conversion to subsidiary equity after year-end. The calculated deficit does not by itself establish an immediate cash repayment demand.

A$49.25m was reclassified from liability to equity on 4 July 2025. Do not make that July entry in the June balance sheet.

FINANCIAL REVIEW / 03

R&D restatement changed earnings, not the bank balance

Under the revised policy, qualifying incentives are recognised in other income rather than deducted from exploration assets. The FY2024 comparative is restated, and the policy change itself has no cash-flow impact. Refund cash, accrued income and a receivable must remain separate.

FINANCIAL REVIEW / 04

Cash investment preceded the larger earn-in programme

Earlier capital raises financed substantial exploration payments. The later A$98.5m DFS budget is a programme commitment and does not mean Ardea holds that sum as unrestricted cash or that construction finance has been secured.

FINANCIAL REVIEW / 05

Feasibility progress is not operating-mine revenue

At this stage, study quality, delivery against the funded budget and the next funding decision are more informative than a manufactured production or sales trend. The group described its activities as exploration and feasibility studies, and future construction remained a distinct funding step.

Reading the figures

  • Existing frozen annual extraction only. No original annual reports, new database queries, financial web research or MiniMax drafting. Published primary-author review.
  • FY2021-FY2023 earnings retain their original editions; FY2024 is restated. No uniformly restated five-year return or growth rate is manufactured.
  • The extracted narrative asserting no debt is not substituted for the dated consolidated borrowings statement. The investor advance and July conversion are explained separately.
  • A small exploration-value narrative conflicts with the consolidated balance-sheet amount. The explicit consolidated A$105.149m row is selected; no unsupported ownership apportionment is applied.
  • The selected packet lacks a complete comparable FY2024-FY2025 investing/financing cash breakdown. This is a packet limitation, not a claim that the issuer did not disclose one.
  • The DFS budget, projected mine output and PFS valuation are not current cash, realised sales or project market value.
